Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find yours?

Booking and payment

How do I book a tour?

Choose our 10 day tour or use the planner to describe your own. We reply with a quote, usually within one working day. You confirm by paying a deposit, and we send you a booking confirmation. Nothing is booked until you confirm. Plan your tour

Do I pay for a quote?

No. A quote is free and you aren't obliged to book.

How much does a Namibia tour cost?

It depends on your dates, season, lodge level and group size. Namibia has a high season (July to October) and a low season (November to June), and prices differ between them. We don't publish fixed prices, because we quote each tour for your plan. Request a quote and we'll send the total for your group.

When do I pay?

A deposit confirms your booking and the balance is due before you travel. Your quote shows the amounts and dates. See Cancellation and payment.

How can I pay?

By bank transfer, and by card where we offer it. Your invoice gives the details.

What if I need to cancel?

Tell us in writing. The charge depends on how long before the tour you cancel, and on any stricter terms from lodges. See Cancellation and payment. We strongly advise travel insurance.

During your tour

Who will be my guide?

An English-speaking driver-guide stays with you for the whole tour. They drive, explain what you see and look after the plans each day.

What vehicle do we travel in?

A private 4x4 safari vehicle. Your group has the vehicle to itself, with room at the windows for viewing and photographing.

What does a typical day look like?

It depends on the day. On our 10 day tour, some days start before sunrise, such as at Sossusvlei, and some days are long drives with stops. Etosha has a full day of game drives with a picnic lunch. You are usually at your lodge in the late afternoon. Your guide tells you the plan each evening.

Are meals included?

On Namibia Unveiled: breakfast daily, three lunches (one is a picnic in Etosha) and six dinners, including welcome and farewell dinners. Bottled water and light snacks are in the vehicle each day. Your quote lists the meals for your tour.

Are tips included?

No. Tips are never required. See our Namibia travel guide for a guide to what people usually give.

Can you cater for dietary needs?

Tell us when you request a quote and we pass the request to the lodges. We can't guarantee it until we confirm it in writing.

Will I see lions and elephants?

Both live in Etosha, and the waterholes give a good chance, especially in the dry season. No one can promise a sighting. Wildlife viewing depends on the season, the weather and luck.

Safety and health

Is Namibia safe?

Namibia is a popular destination and most visits pass without trouble. Cities such as Windhoek have street crime, like cities elsewhere, and roads outside towns can be dangerous at night. Your driver-guide plans the days so you are at your lodge before dark and advises you on where to go. See our Namibia travel guide.

Do I need a visa for Namibia?

Most visitors from the UK, the USA and the European countries we serve do. You can apply online or get a visa on arrival. See Namibia visa and entry requirements.

Do I need vaccinations or malaria tablets?

Talk to your doctor or a travel clinic at least eight weeks before you go. Malaria transmission is listed for northern Namibia, which includes the Etosha area, and is rare elsewhere and absent in Windhoek. Your doctor can advise for your dates and route.

Is tap water safe to drink?

We carry bottled water in the vehicle each day, and your guide will tell you where tap water is fine to drink.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. It is compulsory on our tours. It must cover medical costs (including evacuation), cancellation and baggage. Check that it covers any optional activities you choose, such as sandboarding or quad biking.

Accommodation

Where will we stay?

In lodges and hotels in two comfort levels, mid-range or luxury. Namibia Unveiled lists the lodges, for example Namib Desert Lodge, Doro Nawas, Etosha Safari Camp and Onguma Treetop for mid-range, and Little Kulala, Camp Kipwe and Ongava Tented Camp for luxury. Names depend on availability and are confirmed in your quote.

Can I have a single room?

Yes. A single supplement applies, and it is set in your quote.

Children and fitness

Can I bring children?

Yes. Tell us their ages when you send your plan. Some activities and lodges have age limits. Children aged 12 and under sharing a room with two adults may pay a reduced rate, shown in your quote. Namibian immigration requires specific documents for children, including a full birth certificate. See Namibia visa and entry requirements.

How fit do I need to be?

You don't need to be very fit. Days include long drives, and some activities involve walking on sand or rock. Dune climbs are optional and you go at your own pace. Tell us about any mobility needs and we'll plan around them.

Planning

When is the best time to visit Namibia?

For wildlife, the dry season, from about May to September, is usually best. The rainy season (about November to March) is green and quieter. See Namibia weather and best time to visit.

Can I travel on my own, or drive myself?

Not at the moment. Our tours include a driver-guide.

Can you collect me from the airport?

Yes. On our tours your driver-guide meets you at Hosea Kutako International Airport. Tell us your flight details.

What do I do next?

Tell us your dates and who is travelling. Plan your tour
